Braiding Bash Brilliancy
The first activity was presented to the girls’ campus last night at seven o’clock p.m. by the Health & Hygiene Committee. The Braiding Bash introduced hair and styling tips to expand our abilities using our limited resources to be presentable during our stay at Diamond Ranch Academy.
The event began with the introduction of the members participating, and thanks for those who were able to attend, given by the chairman. Before learning any of the hairstyles, she taught the group how to correctly brush their hair. After that, we learned several different hairstyles. Several stuck out, and were popular among the girls. One was the “Sassy Classy”, a simple style that involved twisting two sections of hair, then combining them into one section of hair, followed by securing it in a hair tie. Another style the girls enjoyed was the “Braidy Lady”. The style had a very retro look, which another committee member instructed how to achieve this style. This style was simple, and the finished product had two braids on either side of the head, pulled back into one hair tie. Other styles that were popular were the “Chic Pony” and the "French braid".
After these and several other styles were presented, each member advised us on basic hair tips. The Committee then opened up conversation for questions and tips from the audience. During this time, free punch was provided. Those who wanted more refreshment were offered jell-o with whip cream on top for the price of ten ledger dollars.
For the most part, the event went smoothly and most enjoyed it. There was a variety of styles offered to learn, and much encouragement for everyone. We look forward to more activities from the upper level committees soon.

Diamond Ranch Academy Committee Workshop
The upper level committees’ workshop on Thursday went better than planned! It began at three-thirty with an inspirational video shown by Program Director, Cody. The short film was about a father whose son had down syndrome. The family duo competed in triathlons together and won several competitions. Cody explained to the students how the film tied in with serving others and health. We learned that we can make changes in the world, community, and at Diamond Ranch Academy everyday. Following his speech, he introduced the three committees.
The Service committee spoke first, and introduced Three-Minute Thursdays. The committee spoke about possible future activities and programs, such as the variety show and a recycling program.
The Health and Hygiene Committee were enthusiastic and presented themselves well. They informed the crowd of a future “Braiding Bash” where girls will be able to learn how to braid and style their hair.
The Homemaking Committee was last to present. They spoke about their goals to help make Diamond Ranch Academy more homey to its residents and explained what kinds of things they will be doing for us.
All together, the workshop was a success. Upon leaving, the students were excited for what these committees can do, and one day joining a committee to become more involved.

Diamond Ranch Academy Committees
Diamond Ranch Academy Service Committee
This week in service committee we are making progress towards “3-Minute-Thursdays” and recycling. We are in the process of planning a variety show where the girls will be able to exhibit their skills and talents for the girls’ campus (Whisper and Crystal). We will be announcing these plans at the workshop tomorrow (Thursday).
Today we are decorating a bulletin board in the big building that will convey our work and plans to everyone.
Diamond Ranch Academy Health and Hygiene Committee
This has been an exciting week for the Health & Hygiene Committee. We are off to a good start with plans and suggestions for the ranch. Belts are a work in progress and we are looking into getting some kind of hair clips.
Due to our new bulletin board, we have been searching for motivational quotes and hygiene tips as well as health facts. Along with all our decision making, we have been working on the layout of our display.
UPCOMING EVENT: Braiding Bash!!
We are researching in the library fun braiding styles to teach the girls.
Diamond Ranch Academy Homemaking Committee
This week on Thursday, April 16th, all of the committees will be doing a presentation to introduce each committee. Committee chairpersons will be conducting the event. The Homemaking Committee will be decorating our board in a modern techno theme. We will also be introducing our first main event - the Etiquette Dinner - as well as presenting our mission statement, governing values, vision and objectives. As the Homemaking Committee, we will be working with the others to “enhance the appeal and appearance of Diamond Ranch Academy.” We will look forward to working with the staff and student body here at DRA.
